This easy crocheting stitch using a combination of two basic stitches, the single crochet stitch and the double crochet stitch is also know as the grit stitch or the thicket stitch.
For this fun crochet stitch, you put the single and double crochet stitches in the same space. After you have the stitch set up, it is an easy one row repeat.
The suzette stitch is not a yarn eater, that means it doesn’t take lots of yarn like a puff or bean stitch would. It works up quickly because it is simple to remember and goes fast.
This pretty stitch is easy to work with and is great for washcloths, blankets, scarves, ear warmers and more. It looks good in solids and variegated yarn too.

How to do the Crochet Suzette Stitch Pattern Tutorial
Step by Step Suzette Stitch Directions
- Chain an even number for the starting chain.
- In the 2nd stitch from the hook, single crochet. Repeat 1 single crochet in each chain until the end of the row. Chain 1 and turn.
- Crochet 1 single and 1 double crochet in the 1st stitch. Skip 1 stitch and crochet 1 single and 1 double in the same stitch. Repeat (Skip 1 stitch and crochet 1 single and 1 double in the same stitch) until you reach the end of the row. Single crochet in the last stitch. Chain 1 and turn.
- Double crochet in the 1st stitch. 1 single and 1 double crochet in the single crochet stitch from the row below. Repeat (1 single and 1 double crochet in the single crochet stitch from the row below) until you reach the end of the row. Single crochet in the last stitch. Chain 1 and turn.
- Repeat step 4 until you have the length you want.
- Final row of the suzette stitch, do two single crochets in the last stitch. Then follow with one row of single crochet.
