I love Lion Brand Mandala Yarn because you can have lots of colors without buying lots of different skeins of yarn and wondering if the colors are going to go well together. the yarn is also easy to work with and colors it lots of lovely colors.

Granny squares are fun to make because there is a basic pattern of double crochet stitches and chain stitches. You just keep repeating and watch the colors mix together with each growing stripe.

If you like exact stripes of only one color, you can separate the yarn into different ball and use each for a stripe. I like the ease of the continuous stripes and let the colors fall where they may.

Sometimes, I find there is too much of one color and I cut color short and move onto the next color.

Granny Square Blanket Pattern

Supplies

• 2- 5.3 oz Lion Brand Mandala Yarn in Groot or any #3 DK yarn
• scissors
• tapestry needle
• 4 mm crochet hook

Abbreviations – US Terms

• sc–single crochet
• dc – double crochet

ch- chain

Round 1:  Chain 4 (counts as 1st dc).  In the 4th loop work 2dc, ch-3, 3dc, ch-3, 3dc, ch-3, 3dc, ch-3, sl st to top of starting ch 3.

Round 2:  Sl st to next space. Ch 3, 2 dc, ch-3, 3 dc (1st corner made), *ch-1, (3 dc, ch-3, 3dc) in next corner*, repeat * to * 2 more times.  Ch 1.  Join with a sl st to the top of the 1st ch.

Round 3:  Sl st to next space, (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in space for corner, *ch1, 3 dc in next space, ch1, in next corner space work 3dc, ch 3, 3 dc*, repeat * to * twice, ch1, 3dc, ch1, join to top of starting ch3.

To work additional rounds, sl st to next space.  In corners work (3dc, ch 3, 3dc).  In spaces on sides work 3dc.  Work a ch 3 in between the dc clusters on the sides.

Cut and knot yarn. Weave in ends.
