Christmas Granny Square Ornaments

Turn this colorful granny square keychain pattern into a cute crochet Christmas ornament. These little granny squares work up quickly and are perfect for using small amounts of leftover yarn in your favorite holiday colors.

For a traditional Christmas look, I used red, green, mustard, and white. I also made a winter version using sky blue, vivid blue, classic blue, and white. You could easily change the colors to match your Christmas tree or holiday décor.

Use the same mini granny square pattern and finish it with the crocheted hanging loop. For the ornament version, you can skip the metal keyring and simply hang the loop directly on your Christmas tree.

These small ornaments would also be cute:

  • tied onto Christmas presents as gift toppers
  • added to a handmade Christmas garland
  • given as teacher or coworker gifts
  • tucked into a Christmas card
  • sold at holiday craft fairs
  • made as a set in coordinating colors

Because they use such small amounts of yarn, these scrap yarn Christmas ornaments are a great way to use leftover worsted-weight yarn from other holiday projects.

Traditional Christmas Granny Square Ornament

Use Kelly Green, Red, Mustard, and White for a bright traditional Christmas color combination. The different colors make the simple granny square pattern stand out and give each ornament a cheerful handmade look.

Blue and White Winter Ornament

For a wintery alternative, combine Sky Blue, Vivid Blue, Classic Blue, and White. The shades of blue paired with white give the ornament a snowy look that would work well with blue, silver, or winter-themed Christmas decorations.
