How to Make an Square Using the Crochet Blanket Stitch
Supplies
- scissors
- tapestry needle
- 4 mm crochet hook
- 2 – 2 oz Peaches & Crème Stripey Cotton Yarn in Linen or any other medium worsted weight gauge 4 yarn.
Abbreviations – US Terms
- ch/chs – chain/chains
- st/sts – stitch/stitches
- sk– skip
- sc – single crochet stitch
- dc – double crochet stitch
I added a row of single crochet to the start and end of the square.
Use a multiple of 3 +2 for the chain. I used 1 1/2 skeins for the 11 in square.
Size: 11 in x 11 in (28 cm)

Row 1: In the 2nd ch, sc, and in each st across. Chain 1 and turn.
Row 2: In the st make 2 dc, * sk 2 chs, in next ch do 1 sc & 2 dc, repeat from * across until you are left with 3 chs, sk 2 chs, sc in last ch. Chain 1 and turn.
Row 3: In the 2nd next st make 2 dc, *sk 2 sts, in the next st make 1 sc & 2 dc, repeat from * across until you are left with 3 sts, sk 2 sts, sc into the top of the turning ch. Chain 1 and turn.
Repeat Row 3 until you have 32 rows or the length you want. The last row is single crochet.
Cut yarn and knot. Weave end all ends.
For a blanket approximately 44 in x 55 in, using the crochet blanket stitch squares, you will need 20 squares. You would need round 27 skeins of the Peaches and Crème yarn.
