We found a some dragonflies when we are out on a walk by the river. The dragonflies inspired us to do this paper roll dragonfly kid craft.
This dragonfly kid craft just needs a few supplies. It is great away to recycle some of those toilet paper rolls.
Dragonfly kid crafts are great for the letter D alphabet theme, bug theme, and great for the summertime too.
Pair with a book like Eliza and the Dragonfly a book about the life cycle of a dragonfly.
I have gathered some more fun bug crafts, ladybug crafts, caterpillar crafts, and butterfly crafts.

How to Make a Paper Roll Dragonfly Kid Craft
Supplies
- Tissue paper – I used white
- paint – I used purple, dark blue and turquoise acrylic paint
- toilet paper roll
- glue
- googly eyes
- scissors (safety scissors for the kids)
- pencil
Step 1. Cut paper roll into 2 pieces, by flattening it some and cutting up the 2 sides
Step 2. Fold each one of the paper roll pieces into thirds. Put glue in seam and hold until dry.
Step 3. Next paint the body your preferred paint color. I use dark blue, purple, and turquoise. Let the paint dry.
Step 4. Fold the white tissue paper over so you have several layers. I had about 4 layers. On the fold, draw a set of wings for each dragonfly.
Mine looked like a lopsided heart with one wing being longer. You could draw 2 ovals too, with one of them being longer.
Don’t have any tissue paper, you could use a coffee filter or just plain white computer paper.
Step 5. Then unfold the wings and glue to the bodies at the top. Let dry.
Step 6. Turn over dragonflies and glue the googly eyes at the very top of the paper roll. If you don’t have googly eyes, then cut circles out of paper and draw black circles in the center. Let eyes dry and enjoy your dragon craft.
