Try the brick stitch. The pattern has an easy repeat with double crochet and single crochet. The texture is made by going 2 rows below and do a double crochet.
Cotton washcloth are durable and easy to make so they are great for the kitchen or bathroom. You could use them instead of paper towels.

Supplies
- 2 oz (5 g) Loops & Threads Creamsicles ombre or any worsted weight gauge 4 yarn 95 yd (86 m)
- 1 -3.5 oz Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton Yarn in yellow or any worsted weight gauge 4 cotton yarn
- 5 mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Tapestry or yarn needle
Abbreviations – US Terms
- yo – yarn over
- ch – chain
- dc – double crochet
- sc – single crochet
- st/sts – stitch/stitches
- dcflo- front loop only double crochet
- scflo- front loop only single crochet
Size: 9.5 in (24 cm)
Chain a multiple of 4 sts + 3
Ch 35
Row 2: Dc in the third chain from hook and in each chain to the end of the row.
Row 3: Chain one and turn. Single crochet in first st. Scflo) of each stitch to the end of the row. Last stitch sc.
Row 4: Chain two and turn. DC in first stitch. DCflo in the flo of the dc from 2 rows down. DC in each of the next 3 sts. DCflo row 2 rows down, then dc in the next 3 sts. Repeat to the end of the row ending with 3 dc.
Row 5: Repeat Row 3.
6. Ch 2 and turn. Dc in each of the 3 stitches. Dcflo in the flo 2 rows down. Repeat ending with 1 dc.
Repeat Rows 3 – 6 until you have a square or the length you want.
For the yellow version, I used a 4 mm crochet hook. The dishcloth was a little smaller 8.5 in.
