Looking for a fun colorful ocean craft? Try this cardboard fish kids craft using chalk or oil pastels.
I love crafts that make use of supplies I have on hand. Cardboard boxes are taking over my house. I get several large boxes of fabric a week for the blankets I sell in my Etsy shop (take a peak here.)
I used chalk and oil pastels on the fish but really almost any medium would work, acrylic paint, markers, or crayons. The oil pastels worked great because they show up well and bright. Have fun making these colorful cardboard fish kids craft, perfect for an ocean or beach theme.

Cardboard Fish Kids Craft Supplies
- Cardboard boxes – free of tape and writing – at least on one side
- Chalk – Crayola Sidewalk Chalk
- Oil pastels –Pentel Oil Pastels
- or other preferred meduim – paint, markers, crayons, etc.
- scissors or box cutter(for parent use only)
- pen or pencil
Step 1.
Cut down your boxes to size, if needed. My pieces were about 3 in x 5 in. You should cut the boxes into pieces, cardboard is hard to cut. Draw different fish shapes on one side of the cardboard. You want to keep the shapes pretty simple so you can cut them out.
Step 2.
Color the fish. I liked the oil pastels because they were the brightest but the sidewalk chalk worked too. Make lots of different patterns. Don’t forget the eye. When finished cut out the fish, this would be easier for an adult. It takes some turning and cutting chunks to cut the fish shapes out. Then they are ready to play with. You could create an ocean scene for the fish to swin through.
