Easy Gray Stripe Chunky Crochet Blanket Free Pattern

I used two coordinating shades of Bernat Blanket-style super bulky yarn for this throw. The original blanket uses Silver Steel with Dark Gray, giving the finished blanket a soft gray-and-cream look. The project uses approximately 660 yards of Silver Steel and 440 yards of Dark Gray.

Bernat Blanket Yarn is a #6 super bulky chenille yarn, which makes it especially useful for cozy blankets that you don't want to spend months making.

• dc – double crochet
• ebc – even berry crochet
• ch– chain
• YO – yarn over

special stitch -even berry crochet – yo insert your hook into the space, yo, pull through, yo, and pull through 1 loop on the hook. Then, yo, insert your hook into the same designated space again, yo, pull through, yo, and pull through all 5 loops on the hook.

Expert tips

• For the even berry stitch, you need a single crochet stitch between each of the even berry stitches. You also need to alternate with a row between each of the even berry rows otherwise the texture will not be on the same side.
• You can make a larger or smaller crocheted blanket by using an even number +1 for the chain.

Row 1: Dc in 4th chain from the end. dc in the next chain and to the end. Chain 3 turn.

Row 2: Dc in each stitch to the end. Chain 3 turn.

Row 3: Dc in each stitch to the end. Chain 1 turn. Tie off.

Color B - Dark Gray

Row 4:  sc in each stitch until the end of the row. Chain 1 turn.

Row 5: sc in 1st stich, *ebc in next stitch, sc in next stitch,* End with sc. Chain 1 turn.

Row 6: sc in each stitch until the end of the row. Chain 3 turn. Tie off.

Repeat Row 2, 3 times ending with a chain 1.

Then repeat Row 4-6. Keep alternating the last 2 steps until you have 66 rows.

Ending with 3 rows of double crochet. Tie and cut off. Weave in ends using a tapestry needle. Enjoy your chunky throw blanket.

How to Make the Blanket Larger or Smaller

Want a different size? Adjust the beginning chain while maintaining the stitch multiple required for the berry-stitch section, then continue the same stripe repeat until the blanket reaches your desired length.

For a baby blanket, start with fewer stitches and stop the repeats earlier. For a larger couch throw or bed blanket, add stitches to the starting chain and continue adding stripe repeats.

Because changing the dimensions also changes the yarn requirement, buy extra yarn if you plan to make your blanket significantly larger.
