Easy Primrose Crochet Dishcloth Pattern -Crochet Stitch

What to learn how to make an easy crochet dishcloth pattern? Try this variation of a shell crochet stitch using this free washcloth crochet tutorial with a free printable pattern.

I added a simple border to the dishcloth for a more finished look. For the border, I used the first row of the pattern.

You can use as a square crocheted washcloth as a cleaning cloth, dish towel, or dishcloth. They work great and are durable.

This crochet stitch makes a variation of a shell design using double crochet stitches. It is a simple 2 row repeat, great for watching TV and crocheting. It is a easy crochet stitch with great texture.

Supplies

• Scissors
• tapestry needle
• 1 - 3 oz – Lily Sugar n' Cream Yarn in or any other worsted weight cotton yarn
• H/8 5 mm Crochet Hook

Abbreviations – US Terms

• yo – yarn over
• st/sts - stitch
• ch - chain
• hdc- half double crochet
• dc– double crochet

You can make a larger or smaller crochet dishcloth or a blanket by using a multiple of 3 + 2   for the chain.

Chain 38

Row 1: 1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc in 3rd chain from hook, * skip next 2 chs, 1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc in next ch, repeat from * across, ending with 1 hdc in last ch, turn.

Row 2: ch 3, * 3 dc in next ch 2 space (shell), repeat from * across, ending with 1 dc in top of turning ch, turn.

Row 3: ch 2, * 1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc in 2nd dc of next shell, repeat from * across, ending with 1 hdc in top of turning chain, turn.

Repeat rows 2 & 3

Border:

Round 1: sc in each stich across. 2 sc in the corner. 4 sc for each of the 2 rows down the side (3 sts for the dc, 1 for hdc) . 1 single in each stitch cross. Slip stitch to the 1st st.

single crochet, ch 2, 1 sc in the 1 sc. Then *skip 2 stiches, 1 sc, 2 ch, 1 sc*. Repeat round.

Cut yarn and weave in ends with a tapestry needle.

• For the chain you need a multiple of 3 +2.
• Pattern is a 2 row repeat.

Step by Step Primrose Stitch Crochet Tutorial

1. Chain a multiple of 3 + 2.
2. Single crochet, chain 2, single crochet in the 3rd chain from the hook. *Skip 2 chains, [1 single crochet, chain 2, 1 single crochet]*. Repeat ** to the end of the row ending with a half double crochet in the final chain. Turn.
3. Chain 3, * 3 double crochet in the chain space (shell).* Repeat from ** across, ending with 1 double crochet in top of turning chain. Turn.
4. Chain 2. * [1 single crochet, chain 2, 1 single crochet) in 2nd double of next shell*. Repeat from ** across, ending with 1 half double in top of turning chain, turn.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you have the length you want.
