Make a quick beanie using this pretty stitch called either the star or daisy stitch. The stitch is more complicated than a beginner stitch but after you learn how to do the stitch it is a one row repeat.
The beautiful textured works well for many items. I have made ear warmers, cowls, and a blanket with this pretty stitch.

You can make a larger or smaller hat by increasing the ribbing rows and the number of rows of the main hat section.
Size: 8.5 in x 9 in
Ribbing
Ch 8 3.5 mm
Row 1: sc in the 2nd st from the hook and in each st across. Chain 1 and turn.
Row 2: scbl in the 2nd st and in each st across. Chain 1 and turn.
Repeat Row 2 until you have the length of the distance around your head minus 1 in. I did 85 rows for 21.5 inches. You want an odd number of rows.
Main Part of Hat
Change to a 4 mm crochet hook
Row 1: Sc crochet evenly around the top of the long side of the ribbing. Put 1 sc in each row of ribbing. Chain 3 and turn.
Row 1: sc in the 2nd st each across. Chain 3 and turn.
Row 2: In the 2nd chain from the hook, pull up a loop. In the 1st chain 1 from the turning chain from the row below, insert the hook and pull up a loop. Then insert your hook into the 2nd stitch from the row below. Pull up a loop.
Then pull through all 4 loops on your hook. *Chain 1. In the chain 1 space you just made, insert the hook and pull up a loop. In the last chain that was worked (from the hook where you pulled up your 4th loop), insert the hook and pull up a loop.
Two chains over (in the 7th chain from the hook), pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through all 4 loops. Repeat * until you reach the end of the row. Chain 2 more for a total of 3 chains and turn.
Keep repeating row 2, until you have rows or height you want. Cut and knot ends. Weave in yarn ends.
Finishing
Fold the hat in half horizontally and sew up the seem.
Sew a gathering stitch around the top of the hat. Draw the hole close. Sew through any openings to close off the top of the hat. Weave in all ends.
