Make your own cozy faux fur hat crochet pattern. I made this easy and quick hat for my daughter to match the pink and silver cowl I had already made.

This quick pattern using part of a skein of Bernat Casa Yarn. This yarn is a mix of faux fur yarn, boucle yarn, velvet yarn, and chenille yarn.

The other yarn is thick and quick Lion Brand Faux Fur Yarn. This yarn has a soft fuzzy feeling to it and comes in several great colors.

How to Make Faux Fur Hat Pattern: Free PDF

Supplies

  • 1- 4.2 ox (120 g) Lion Brand Go For Faux Thick & Quick Yarn in Pink Poodle or any faux yarn gauge 7 24 yd (22 m)
  • 1- 7.9 oz (225 g) Bernat Casa Yarn or any gauge 6 super bulky yarn 170 yd (155 m)
  • 8 mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry or yarn needle

Abbreviations – US Term

  • ch – chain
  • sk– skip
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • st/sts – stitch or stitches

Hat Written Pattern

Ribbed Brim of Hat

To make an adult size increase the ribbing to 20 – 22 in. Then increase the height by 1-2 in.

Ch 5 – Child size

Row 1: sc in the 2nd chain from the hook and in each chain across. Ch 1 and turn.

Row 2: scbl in 1st st and each st across. Ch 1 and turn.

Repeat Row 2 until you have 37 rows or the length need for the circumference around the head. Cut yarn and knot. Leave a long enough tail of yarn to sew the ends together.

Fold ribbed brim in half and sew the short ends together.

Main Part of Hat

Round 1: Pull up a loop on the long part of the brim and single crochet evenly in each row around.

Round 2: sc in each stitch around.

Round 3-7: sc in each stitch around.

Round 8: decrease twice, sc for the rest of the round.

Round 9: decrease 3 times, sc for the rest of the round.

Round 10: decrease 4 times, sc for the rest of the round.

Round 11: Repeat Round 10.

Cut yarn and knot. Leave a long tail to gather the top of the hat.

Finish Hat

Flip the hat inside out and gather the top of the hat by going in and out of the top row of stiches. Pull gathering together. Then sew the opening.

Knot and weave in the ends. Leave a tail to help attach the pompom to the top of the hat.

Pompom

With pink faux fur yarn, chain 4. Slip stitch to the 1st stitch. Sc in each stitch a round. Repeat for 4 rows.  Cut and knot yarn. Leave a tail to tie the pompom to the top of the hat.

Attach pompom to hat using tail from the hat and from the pompom. Weave in ends.
