Looking for a free crochet hat pattern to try? This blue waves crochet hat free pattern printable PDF is a great project to try. It uses the half double stitch and the spike stich, which is an easy variation of the single crochet stitch.
The spike stitch makes a triangular pattern. It is an easy repeat but it does take more concentration on counting then most of my other patterns. You could make it with any gauge 3 yarn you would like.
A crocheted hat would make a great gift too. You can choose a color to go with their style or a neutral that would work for anyone. Scarves are practical too. With the rest of the yarn, I made a matching scarf.
I love the multi-colored yarn. I chose Herrschners® Pastry Plus in Umami because it reminds me of ocean and my favorite color is blue. This yarn is soft and easy to work with.
I made and easy ribbed crochet hat pattern using Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick. The crochet hat pattern is an easy rectangle.

Leave a long tail at the beginning. Hold on to the tail and gather the top by pulling on the other end. Tie the yarn that you used to gather the top in a tight knot. Sew the two ends into the gathered top part of the hat making sure it is secure. Weave ends in with tapestry needle.
