To make a larger or smaller project, start your chain with an even number. This scarf uses the rice stitch which is front and back post double crochet stitches alternating.
The chain will be the length of your scarf so you will want to check the length of the chain to make sure you are happy with the length of the scarf. I double check the length after I do the first row of single crochet.
A good length for a scarf is between 60 in to 70 in. You will want it longer or shorten due to the person’s height. You also might want it longer if it is really cold where you live and you want to wrap the scarf several times.
