This stitch uses the the puff stitch while skipping the next space. Then it alternates with a row of single crochet. It has lots of textured with the raised puffs. You can make the puff smaller or large by decreasing or increasing the number of loops you do.
This stitch works for lots of crochet projects. You can made dishcloths, scarves, cowls, ear warmers, and a blanket using it.
The skills you need are the chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, and the puff stitch. This stitch is harder than some to understand at first but once you done it several time you get into the rhythm of it.

Puff Stitch Crochet Tips
- For the chain you need an even number.
- You can decrease or increase the size of the puff by doing more loops.
- The puff stitch is closed by a chain stitch. Then you follow it with a 2nd chain stitch while skipping the next stitch. (This is not true for every pattern so carefully read the pattern.)
- There is a row of single crochet in between each row of puff stitches.
- This stitch takes lots of yarn.
Step by Step Puff Stitch Crochet Tutorial
- Chain an even number.
- Single crochet in the 2nd stitch from the hook and in each stitch across. Chain 2 and turn.
- Puff stitch: Yarn over, insert hook into the stitch. Yarn over, pull up a loop. *Yarn over, insert hook in same stitch. Yarn over, pull up a loop* Repeat** 3 times. There will be 9 loops on hook. Yarn over, and draw through all loops on hook. You want to pull the loop up to the height of the chain 2 or a half double crochet stitch.
- 2nd row, puff stitch in the 2nd stitch, chain 1, skip 1 stitch. Repeat puff stitch, chain 1, skip 1 stitch.
- End row with 1 half double crochet in the last stitch.

- 1 – 2oz (56.7 g) Peaches and Crème Stripey Cotton Yarn in Energetic Pink) or any worsted weight cotton yarn gauge 4 light 102 yds (93 m)
- 3.5 crochet hook
- Tapestry or yarn needle
- scissors

Row 1: sc in the 2nd st from the hook and in each chain across. Chain 2 and turn.
Row 2: puff in 2nd st, ch 1, skip next st. Repeat puff, ch 1, skip next st. End with hdc. Chain 1 and turn.
Row 3: sc in the 2nd st and in each st across. Chain 2 and turn.
Repeat Rows 2-3 until you have 21 rows or the length you want. End with a row of single crochet.
