The Interlocking Block Crochet Stitch
This Up and Down Stripe cotton dishcloth pattern is the perfect way to show your personality and add a personal touch to any kitchen.
The interlocking block crochet stitch is a mix of double crochet stitches that creates a textured stripe that goes up and down.
This crochet dishcloth pattern uses the interlocking block stitch to create a textured look that is both unique and stylish.
Peaches & Crème Stripey Yarn
Cotton yarn has great durability and will not wear out easily. This cotton yarn is a little thinner and soft than some other brands.
I decided to go with the Beach House color, because it’s such a pretty mixed of soft pinks, coral, and gray.
I just love it! There is a wide variety of solid and multi colors to choose from.

Step 1. Chain Multiple of 4 +1
Chain any multiple of 4+1. For the washcloth I chained 37.
I used Lily Sugar N Cream Cotton Yan in Yellow and Tangerine for the example with a 5 mm H crochet hook.
Step 2. HDC
Half double crochet in the 3rd chain from the hook. Then half double crochet in each stitch until the end of the row. Chain 2 and turn your work.
You should have 36 stitches.
Step 3. Chain 2, Double Crochet
Half double crochet in the 1st stitch (the same one where you just did the chain 2). Chain 2, skip next 2 stitches, double crochet in those next 2 stitches. Chain 2, skip next 2 stitches. Repeat (Chain 2, skip next 2 stitches, double crochet in those next 2 stitches. Chain 2, skip next 2 stitches.) across.
Half double crochet in the last stitch. Chain 2 and turn.
Changing Colors
If you want to change colors like I did, switch to the 2nd color when you do the last yarn for the last half double crochet of the row. Then chain 2 in the new color.
Step 4. Double Crochet, Chain 2
Double crochet into the next 2 stitches in the row below. Chain 2, skip next 2 stitches, double crochet into the next 2 stitches from the row below. Repeat (Chain 2, skip next 2 stitches, double crochet into the next 2 stitches from the row below) across.
Half double in the top of the chain 2 from the previous row. Chain 2 and turn.
Step 5. Double Crochet 2 Rows Below, Chain 2

Chain 2, skip next 2 stitches, double crochet in next 2 stitches from 2 rows below. Repeat (Chain 2, skip next 2 stitches, double crochet in next 2 stitches from 2 rows below) across.
Half double crochet in last stitch. Chain 2 and turn.
Repeat steps 4-5 until you have the length you want.
Finishing Last Row Ending with Row 5
