How to Make a Free Tweed Hat Crochet Pattern – Worsted Weight Yarn
Supplies
- scissors
- tapestry needle
- 1- H 5 mm crochet hook
- 1 – 5.3 oz Lion Brand Mandala Tweed Stripes Yarn in Knock on Wood, or any gauge 4 yarn 426 yd
- optional 1 – 4 in pompom in Mauve
Abbreviations – US Terms
- ch/chs – chain/chains
- st/sts – stitch/stitches
- sc – single crochet stitch
- hdc – half double crochet stitch
- fphdc – front post half double crochet stitch
- bphdc – back post half double crochet stitch
- dc – double crochet stitch
You can make a larger or smaller item by using an even number for the chain.
You place the single & double crochet in the single crochet from the row before for the entire pattern.

Crocheted Hat Pattern
ch 78
Row 1: in the 2nd st from the hook, c hdc and in each st across. Ch 2 and turn.
Row 2: fphdc in the 2nd stitch, bphdc in the 3rd. Repeat fphdc, bphdc until ending with hdc in the last st. Chain 2 and turn.
Row 3: bphdc in the 2nd stitch, fphdc in the 3rd. Repeat bphdc, fphdc until ending with hdc in the last st. Chain 2 and turn.
Row 4: fphdc in the 2nd stitch, bphdc in the 3rd. Repeat fphdc, bphdc until ending with hdc in the last st. Chain 2 and turn.
Row 5: bphdc in the 2nd stitch, fphdc in the 3rd. Repeat bphdc, fphdc until ending with hdc in the last st. Chain 1 and turn.
Row 6: dc in 1st st. *skip st (sc, dc) in st.* repeat from ** to the end of the row. Chain 1 and turn.
Row 7: dc in the 1st stitch * (sc, dc) in sc of the row below, repeat from * to the end of the row. Chain 1 and turn.
Repeat Row 7 until you have 21 rows or the length you want.
Final row of the suzette stitch, do two single crochets in the last stitch. Chain 2 and do 1 row of half double crochet.
Finishing Hat
Fold the rectangle in half horizontally and sew it together or slip or whip stitch.
Then using a gathering stitch, just below the top of the hat, sew a wide stitch around the entire hat. Then pull the two ends until the hat is gathered and will not tighten anymore. Knot the yarn.
Then, sew the top of the hat together. Cut yarn and knot. Weave in ends.
If you are adding a pompom to finish off the hat. Sew the pompom on using the loop at the bottom of the pompom to the center of the top of the hat. I used this mauve one.
