- ch/chs – chain/chains
- st/sts – stitch/stitches
- dc – double crochet stitch
- fpdc – front post double crochet stitch
front post double crochet stitch – yarn over, insert the hook behind the post from the front across the post and through the other side, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull thru 2 loops on your hook, yo, pull thru remaining two loops on your hook. You can make a larger or smaller hot pad or a blanket by using 3 + 2 chain. The chain counts as the first double crochet of the row.

Step 1.
Chain a multiple of 3 + 2. 32 for the potholder.
Step 2.
Double crochet in the 4th chain from the hook and in each chain. Turn at the end of the row.
Step 3.
Chain 2. Front post double crochet in the 2nd stitch. Double crochet in the next 2 stitches. Repeat 1 front post double crochet and then 2 double crochet stitches until you reach the last 2 stitches of the row.
