Abbreviations – US Term
- ch – chain
- yo – yarn over
- sk– skip
- sc – single crochet
- dc – double crochet
- fpdc – front post double crochet
To make the project larger use an even number. The chain 3 at the end of the rows counts as the first dc for the next row.

Alpine Stitch Crochet How to – Written Crochet Tutorial
Chain an even number for the starting chain for this alpine stitch crochet pattern. I used 30 chains.
Step 1.
Single crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook and in each chain across (You need an odd number for this pattern 29 stitches). Chain 3 and turn.
Step 2.
In the 2nd stitch, double crochet and in each stitch across. The chain 3 from the first row counts as the first double crochet of this row. Chain 1 and turn.
Now you should have a row of single crochet followed by a row of double crochet. Then chain 3.
Step 3.
In the 1st stitch, single crochet and in each stitch across. Chain 2 and turn.
Step 4.
In the 2nd stitch, front post double crochet (around the double crochet from the row below). Then skip the stitch behind the front post double crochet and double in the next stitch (the 3rd stitch on the single crochet row).
Repeat the front double crochet followed by a double crochet until the end of the row. The last two stitches should be front post double crochet followed by a double crochet. Chain 1 and turn.
Step 5.
In the 1st stitch, single crochet and in each stitch across. Chain 2 and turn.
Step 6.
In the 2nd stitch, double crochet. Then front post double in the next (in the row of double crochet below). Skip the stitch behind the front post double crochet and double in the next stitch.
Repeat double crochet and front post double crochet until you have one stitch left then double crochet (the last 2 stitches should be double crochet). Chain 1 and turn.
Step 7.
In the 1st stitch, single crochet and in each stitch across. Chain 2 and turn.
Repeat Steps 4-7 until you have the length you want.
If you are using bulky or super bulky yarn, you will want to do a triple front post stitch instead of the double. I found that using the double front post stitch made the item bunch up.
