Super bulky yarn is great to crochet with. I saw this pretty Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick Yarn in Carousel at my local discount store. With the super chunky yarn and an other chunky yarn I had, I made a colorful Candy Lane Chunky Crochet Headband Pattern.
Headbands are great. You can still have your hair up in a bun and not wear a hat. I like that they don’t seem to make my hair stand up with static electricity either.
This chunky winter headband crochet pattern works up fast and only uses the half double crochet stitch and the slip stitch. It is a soft super bulky yarn that works up easily.
You can make this chunky crochet headband pattern in no time. There are lots of pretty colors of yarn available.
This winter headband pattern is great for beginners too. You only need to be able to do chain, and half double crochet stitch and the slip stitch both basic stitches.

- 10 mm crochet hook
- 1 – 5 oz. Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick Yarn, Carousel gauge 6 yarn (approx. 3 oz. or 53 yd. ) or any super bulky gauge 6 yarn
- 1 -10.5 oz. Premier Serenity Chunky – Cloud Dancer (approx. 2 oz.) or any other bulky yarn gauge 5
Chunky Candy Lane Crochet Headband Pattern Using Super Bulky Yarn
Abbreviations – US Terms
- yo – yarn over
- sl – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
You can make a larger or smaller headband using an odd number for the chain.
Each half double crochet should be on top of a slip stitch and each slip stitch should be on top of a half double crochet.

Row 1: In 3rd chain from the hook, sl in the chain, then hdc. Alternate sl, hdc. Repeat across to the end. End with a sl. Chain 2, turn. Change color to white before chaining 2.
Row 2: sl into the 2nd on top of the hdc from the row below. Alternate sl, hdc. Repeat across to the end. End with a sl. Chain 2, turn. Change color for chaining 2.
Repeat Row 2 until you have 11 rows or you have the height you would like. Change colors after each row.
Cut yarn. Fold wrong sides together and whip stitch short ends together. Weave in ends.
