I love trying different crochet stitches. I’m always on the lookout for a new crochet stitch to try.
The spike stitch crochet pattern uses single crochet stitch. For the second row you do a single crochet in the row below. It is an easy repeat of two rows of stitches and color.
The spike crochet stitch is great for mixing up colors. You can extend the stitch longer too. I love the mix of colors it makes.
I enjoy trying the crochet stitch out in a small easy project. Using Lily Sugar’n Cream Yarn in rose and white, I made an easy two color dishcloth pattern.
I chose Lily Sugar N Cream Yarn. This easy to get yarn comes in lots of different colors.
You can use as a square crocheted dishcloth as a cleaning cloth, dish towel, or wash cloth. They work great and are durable.
Free Easy Spike Stitch Dishcloth Crochet Pattern
These are great gifts too. You can choose a color to go with their décor or a neutral that would go with anyone’s style. They are practical too.
I been making all kinds of different dishcloths, Quick Crochet Dishcloth Free Pattern V Stitch, 123 sedge stitch dishcloth Pattern, free herringbone dish cloths crochet pattern, creamsicle dishcloth pattern, wide double crochet dishcloth, and even berry dishcloth so I decided to do another set in a different stitch.

How to Make an Easy Free Cotton Spike Stitch Easy & Quick Crochet Dishcloth Pattern
Supplies
- Scissors
- tapestry needle
- H/8, 5 mm Crochet Hook
- 1 – 3 oz (85 g) Lily Sugar n Cream in Rose Pink or any other worsted weight cotton yarn approx 150 yd/ 138 m
- 1 – 3 oz (85 g) Lily Sugar n Cream in White or any other worsted weight cotton yarn approx 150 yd/ 138 m
Spike Stitch Crochet Pattern
Abbreviations – US Terms
- ch– chain
- sp– spike stich (insert hook on the top of stitch from the row below.)
- sc – single crochet stich
- st– stitch
You can make a larger or smaller dishcloth or a blanket by using number for the chain. Turning chain counts as first stitch of the row. Change colors every 2 rows after the first row.

Row 1: sc in the 2nd chain from the hook and each chain across. Chain 1 and turn.
Change color to Rose
Row 2: In 2nd stitch, sp in each stitch across (sc in the top of the stitch from the row below). sc in last st. Chain 1 and turn.
Row 3: sc in the 2nd st and each chain across. Chain 1 and turn.
Change to white
Repeat Row 2-3 until you have 24 rows or a square. After the 1st row, change color after every two rows.
Cut and knot yarn. Weave in ends, using a tapestry needle.

- chain 37 in white
