Free Cowl Crochet Pattern – Chunky Twisted Lines

Using the same yarn I did to make a chunky hat, I decided to make a twisted lines free chunky crochet cowl pattern to match.

This crochet chunky cowl pattern is made using Lion Brand Roving Tweed in Grey. This yarn has a roving texture and is gauge 5 so it works up quickly.

Crocheted chunky cowls are great. They keep you warm and work up fast. This is a cushy soft cowl with great texture.

This crochet pattern is easy and with a simple repeat. After you have mastered the single crochet together stitch, this hat will be a quick crochet project.

How to Make a Chunky Cowl Crochet Pattern

Size: Adult women approx.: 6 in x 14.5 in (15 cm x 37 cm)

Abbreviations – US Terms

  • ch/chs – chain/chains
  • st/sts – stitch/stitches
  • sk – skip
  • dc – double crochet stitch
  • bpdc –  back post double crochet stitch
  • fptr – front post triple crochet stitch

To make a larger or smaller project, use a multiple of 5. The chain 3 counts as the first double crochet.

Ch 62

Row 1: hdc in the 2nd chain from the hook and in each chain across. Chain 2 and turn.

Row 2: hdc in the 2nd st and in each stitch across. Chain 2 and turn.

Row 3: dc in the 2nd st. sk 1 st and trfp in next. go back and trfp in sk st. dc in the next 3 st. repeat when there are 3 stitch left sk 1 st and trfp in next. go back and trfp in sk st. dc in the turning chain. chain 2 and turn.

Row 4: bpdc in the next 2 st. dc in the next 3 sts. bpdc in the next 2 st. repeat until you have 4 sts left. sk 1 st and trfp in next. go back and trfp in sk st. dc in the last 2 sts. chain 2 and turn.

Repeat rows 3-4 until you have 12 rows. End with two rows of hdc for a total of 14 rows.

Fold cowl in half and slip or whip stitch up the side. Cut yarn and knot. Weave in ends.
