There are lots of different colors of Caron Cakes Chunky yarn, perfect for a lots of different decors. You can easily scale up for a large throw too or make it smaller for a modern baby blanket.

How to Make a Chunky Crochet Blanket Pattern Free PDF – Tidal Pool

Supplies

• Scissors
• tapestry needle
• K – 6.5 mm crochet hook 
• 3– Caron Chunky Cakes in Blue Moon any other super bulky gauge 6 yarn approx. 30 oz. or 900 yd.
• 3– Caron Chunky Cakes in Mystic Chip any other super bulky gauge 6 yarn approx. 30 oz. or 900 yd.

Tidal Pool Double Crochet Blanket Pattern

Abbreviations – US Terms

• yo – yarn over
• dc –double crochet
• 3dctog – 3 double crochet together

special stitch – 3 double crochet together – similar to working 3 double crochet together in one stitch or space: Yo, insert hook into stitch or space, Yo, draw up a loop (3 loops on hook), Yo, draw through 2 loops (2 loops remain on hook), repeat 2 more times. You will have 3 loops on the hook, then 4. Yo, draw through all loops on hook.

You can make a larger or smaller super chunky yarn blanket by using a even number for the chain.

Chain 110

Row 1: 2 dc in the 4th chain. Skip 1 chain, 3dctog in the next chain, chain 1. *Skip 2 chains, 3dctog in the next chain, chain 1*. Repeat ** until you have 2 chains left, skip 1 chain and 2 dc in the last chain. Chain 3 and turn.

Row 2: 3dctog in the chain space from the row before, chain 1. Repeat until the end, 2 dc in the turning chain from the row before. Chain 3 and turn.

Row 3: Repeat row 2 until you have 57 rows. Tie and cut off. Weave in ends.

Color change: 3 rows alternating of Blue Moon and Mystic Chip. 57 rows total.
